The upper and lower Gerendorf are so close to each other that the upper Geren chapel is perceived as the center of the settlement, while the lower Geren chapel stands lonely on a hilltop at the lower edge of the village. The coats of arms of the Zenden Brig, Visp and Raron, which were embedded in the chapel ceiling before the total renovation, indicate that the chapel is the work of these former Zenden. Towards the end of the 19th century, the chapel, whose patronage and maintenance was the responsibility of the Geren Alp cooperative, walked as an official Geren place of worship to the church community of Obergesteln and Oberwald.
A thin guildstone arch is embedded in the façade. On a plate above the portal are the dates 1647, the initials PM and an unidentified coat of arms. Altar: is stylistically to be assigned to the eighties of the 17th century. The altar was restored in 1968 by Walter Mutter from Naters. The statue of St. Bartholomew in the center is flanked on the left by St. Peter with the key and on the right by St. John the Evangelist with the chalice. In the crown there is a Pietà accompanied by two angels.
