Special Olympics Gommerlauf

The Special Olympics cross-country skiing competitions for people with an impairment take place one week after the International Gommerlauf each year.
On Sunday, March 5, 2023, athletes from all over Switzerland will compete in Ulrichen at the Nordic Center over the distances of 500 meters, one, three and six kilometers. In the morning, qualifying races will determine the group divisions for the final runs.

In order to provide the Special Olympics athletes with optimal competition conditions, three different three-track classic cross-country ski trails will be set up for the various distances. The Nordic Center in Ulrichen offers an ideal cross-country skiing area with the best infrastructure.

The Obergoms Tourism and the organizers of the Special Olympics Gommerlauf hope for as numerous participation as possible of cross-country skiers from disabled sports groups all over Switzerland.

The Behindertensport Oberwallis (www.bsow.ch) organizes cross-country skiing training for their athletes on Saturdays on the cross-country skiing trails in Goms. Different forms of training are used, with the emphasis on the fun of movement. Some members of the BSOW have international competition experience, as they have already competed twice at the World Winter Games of Special Olympics, 2009 in Idaho (USA) and 2017 in Schladming (A).
