The Upper Valais Folk Song Choir brings together singers from all over the Upper Valais. It promotes and cultivates Valais folk songs on both sides of the Valais borders. It is chaired by Ursula Pfammatter from Münster and is directed by Javier Hagen. The Upper Valais Folk Song Choir performs in traditional Valais costume and enjoys singing its cheerful, joyful and contemplative songs even in the smallest of gatherings - and with a bit of luck, these songs can also be heard in the Upper Valais taverns late at night after rehearsals!
Wael Sami Elkholy was born in Dubai and soon became a nationally known child star after moving to Cairo, appearing as a singer and actor in television and theater productions and giving regular concerts at the Cairo Opera House, among others. He completed his musical training at the Cairo Academy of Music, the Cairo Opera House and the Bern University of the Arts, where he graduated with two master's degrees in composition and théâtre musical. Performances as a traditional Arabic singer and composition projects have taken him to America, China, Europe and throughout the Arab world.
UMS'nJIP (Ulrike Mayer-Spohn and Javier Hagen) are one of the most active contemporary new music ensembles, with over 1500 concerts and 300 world premieres in 40 countries and more than 35 international awards. For more than 25 years, they have repeatedly worked with their own musical roots; this program features excerpts from their touchingly intimate work on Valais folk songs.
