In the fight against natural hazards.

Selkingen.

Selgingen Villa

In the past, Selkingen, together with Gluringen, Ritzingen, and Biel, was part of the large parish of Münster known as the “Viertel Grafschaft” (county quarter). The name ‘Grafschaft’ has remained in popular usage. Selkingen was first mentioned in writing in 1374 as “Villa de Selgingen.” Selkinger once lived on the left bank of the Rottens. However, the hamlets of Sechshäusern and Zeiterdorf were abandoned by their inhabitants. The Antonius Chapel above the village bears witness to the constant struggle against natural hazards such as avalanches and flooding. A more recent testament to this is the dam, which has been protecting the village from the force of the Walibach stream since 2003.
