UMS'nJIP and the art song: UMS'nJIP (Ulrike Mayer-Spohn and Javier Hagen) have performed over 300 commissioned works and 1500 concerts in over 40 countries since 2007, performing individual works over 100 times - which is almost unique in new music worldwide. Parallel to their work as performers, they are also active as composers and have received 35 international awards for their works. In their work, they constantly question classical genres - in this case the art song. The inherent sophistication of the art song on a compositional and textual level is a particular challenge. The duo's personal affinity and arrangement (voice, recorders and electronics) offer an appealing terrain for a very special approach to a genre that has been able to achieve a symbiosis of text and music like hardly any other.
UMS'nJIP is one of the most active ensembles for contemporary new music, with performances at the Liceu Barcelona, Steghi Athens, Alexandrinsky St. Petersburg, CRR Istanbul, Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City, Colón Buenos Aires, the Shanghai New Music Week, the Biennale Musica Venezia and Binn. In 2022, they settled in Goms and founded the MEbU (Münster Earport), an art space for contemporary music not far from the Rhone Glacier.
