The center of the county.

Biel.

At the foot of the Walibach stream

In 1277, Biel was still called Buele. Like Gluringen, Selkingen, and Ritzingen, Biel was part of the Grafschaft district, whose historic center had been the mountain village since 1374. In 1827, half of the village was destroyed by an avalanche. Since 2003, a dam has protected the village from the vagaries of the Walibach stream. Incidentally, modern times arrived early here. Since 1915, Biel has been connected to the wider world by rail via its train station.
