"MY SOUL IS STILL"
This year's Goms choir and orchestra concert specifically features music by female composers. The focus is on Fanny Hensel, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's no less talented sister, who is represented with two larger cantatas for choir, vocal solos and orchestra: the hymn of praise "Meine Seele ist stille" from 1831 and the cantata "Zum Fest der heiligen Cäcilia", composed two years later - a decidedly cheerful work with a gentle, lyrical beginning and a jubilant little finale full of esprit. The orchestra also plays the Sinfonia in C major by Marianna von Martines (1744 - 1812): the first symphony ever to be composed by a woman - extremely spirited and cheerful music. These works are juxtaposed with individual vocal and instrumental pieces by his brother Felix Mendelssohn. Performers: Patrizia Zanella, soprano Angela Wiedmer, alto Mona Spägele, Paul Locher, Matthias Walpen, conductor Participants of the Goms Choir and Orchestra Week 2026Dates
