Avalanche danger situation Goms from 17.02.2026 18:30

Media release
The current snow and avalanche situation in the Goms region remains tense. According to the avalanche bulletin issued by the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF on 17.02.26 at 17.00, the avalanche danger in the Goms region is at level 4= (high).
Lots of fresh snow and drifting snow are prone to disruption. Avalanches can entrain deeper layers of the snowpack and become very large. Spontaneous avalanches are still to be expected, especially at night. In the typical avalanche tracks, they can reach down into the valley and endanger exposed traffic routes. The conditions are very dangerous for tours and off-piste descents away from secured pistes.

The following sections are open:
  • Road connection: Niederwald to Selkingen from 21:00
  • Road connection: Grengiols to Viertel from 20:00
The following closures are in place until further notice:
  • Road connection: Obergesteln to Selkingen
  • Road connection: Binn to Imfeld
  • Road connection: Grengiols to Zenhäusern
  • MGBahn connection: Oberwald to Niederwald
  • Furka car transport: Oberwald - Realp
The situation is easing and we are confident that we will be able to lift further restrictions during the course of tomorrow. The situation will be continuously monitored and reassessed if there are any changes. The next information will follow on 18.02.2026 at 09:00.

Detailed information on the situation can be found on the relevant internet portals:You can also subscribe to SMS messages about any traffic route closures. Activation: Send an SMS with START ABO GOMS (for Sunrise and Salt: START GOMS) to the number 963 (costs CHF 0.50 per SMS).
