Avalanche danger situation Goms from 17.02.2026

The current weather, snow and avalanche conditions in the Goms region are critical. According to the avalanche bulletin issued by the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF on 17.02.26 at 08.00 am, the avalanche danger in the Goms region is at level 4+ (high).

Lots of fresh snow and drifting snow are very susceptible to disruption. Avalanches can entrain deeper layers of the snowpack. Many very large spontaneous avalanches are to be expected. Individual extremely large spontaneous avalanches are possible. Most exposed traffic routes are at risk. Exposed settlements may be at risk.
The conditions are very dangerous for tours and off-piste descents away from secured pistes.

The following closures are in place until further notice:
  • Road connection: Obergesteln to Niederwald
  • Road connection: Binn to Imfeld
  • Road connection: Grengiols to Zenhäusern
  • MGBahn connection: Oberwald to Fiesch
  • Furka car transport: Oberwald - Realp
The following sections will be opened:
  • Road connection: Ausserbinn to Binn from 12:00 noon
  • Road connection: Grengiols to Viertel from 9:00am
  • Road connection: Obergesteln to Oberwald from 10:00am (pedestrian ban)
The situation will be continuously monitored and reassessed in the event of changes. The next information will follow on 17.02.2026 at 18:00.
