At 1800 to 2500 meters above sea level, the Swiss stone pine in Goms grows in rare locations
in mostly rocky areas. Its roots often reach over 15 meters
into crevices in fertile soil. Exposed to all the rigors of nature
the trees form themselves into gnarled, weathered landmarks. Often comparable to
to people, outwardly marked by fate, the inside harbors a true beauty.

(bulges). Avalanches and falling rocks sweep them down into the valley. After nature has
