For several years now, Goms has been transformed into a small "Motorsport Valley" in summer. Once again this year, from July 9 to 15, students from all over Europe and beyond will travel here to compete against each other with their self-developed racing cars as part of Formula Student Switzerland.
Formula Student is an international design competition in which students develop, design and finally launch a single-seater racing car on their own initiative within one year. The competition combines outstanding engineering, team spirit and innovative strength and, for one week, turns Goms into a stage for the specialists of tomorrow.
Up to 900 students are expected to take part this summer. Teams from the University of Bern, ETH Zurich, ZHAW, the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland - and of course the home team from Valais/Wallis - will be taking part.
The teams will compete in various disciplines:
In the static categories, the cost structure, business concept and technical design are evaluated down to the last detail. In the dynamic disciplines, the vehicles finally show what they are made of. From acceleration and handling to cornering speed and the demanding endurance test, the so-called Endurance.
Last year, the ETH Zurich team took the overall victory. Whether a Swiss team will manage to keep the trophy at home again in 2026 remains to be seen.
But one thing is certain: the passion, precision and innovative spirit of the participating students will once again transform Goms into a center of tomorrow's motorsports.
