100 years of the Furka-Oberalp Railway

From July 3 to 5, 2026, the Furka-Oberalp Railway will be celebrating its 100th anniversary - exactly a century after the official inauguration of the line between Gletsch (Glacier du Rhône) and Disentis.

In Realp (Urseren), visitors can look forward to a big celebration with an extensive exhibition, historic vehicles and exclusive extra rides on the legendary mountain line. The Furka-Bergstrecke steam railroad will bring the history of the railroad to life - an event for railroad enthusiasts, history buffs and families alike.

Extra train and extra rides
On all three days of the anniversary weekend, the Furka-Bergstrecke steam railroad (DFB) and the MGBahn are jointly offering a historic special train on the Disentis and Realp route (or vice versa). The traditional HGe 4/4 I No. 36 locomotive from 1948 and passenger carriages over 100 years old from the DFB will be used.

Reservations are required for the three extra trips. Holders of an MGBahn anniversary day ticket benefit from a special price of only CHF 30.00 in 2nd class (instead of CHF 60).

As a further highlight, the DFB is offering a steam train between Realp and Andermatt with a return journey to Realp on the mornings of July 4 and 5. These steam trips can be used free of charge. The anniversary days from 3 - 5 July will be rounded off with an exhibition and festivities on the site of the Furka mountain steam railroad in Realp.
