Avalanche danger situation Goms from 16.02.2026

The current weather, snow and avalanche conditions in the Goms region are critical. According to the avalanche bulletin issued by the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF on 16.02.26 at 17.00, the avalanche danger in the Goms region is at level 4+ (high).
The main danger is the large amount of fresh snow and the resulting large accumulations of drifting snow. The snow cover is widely unstable. Avalanches can also start in old snow. Very large spontaneous avalanches are to be expected. Avalanches can also occur in trains that have already been discharged. They can reach down into the valley.
The following closures are in place until further notice:
  • Road connection: Obergesteln to Niederwald
  • Road connection: Ausserbinn to Imfeld
  • Road connection: Grengiols to Viertel
  • Road connection: Grengiols to Zenhäusern
  • MGBahn connection: Oberwald to Fiesch
  • Furka car transport: Oberwald - Realp
The situation will be continuously monitored and reassessed accordingly in the event of changes. The next information will follow on 17.02.2026 at 9:00 am.
