Station Ritz in Niederwald.

A tribute to Caesar Ritz.

Next stop Station Ritz in the train station Niederwald

Get to know the great hotelier Cäsar Ritz and discover art and culture around Niederwald. In winter and summer the station is an ideal starting and ending point for your leisure tour with dressing rooms, lockers and showers. A few years ago the Obergoms Tourismus AG, the Binntal Nature Park and the municipality of Goms founded the Niederwald Visitor Center Association. With the help of donations, the reconstruction could be realized and the Station Ritz could be opened at the end of 2019, which houses two exhibitions as well as a bistro (closed until further notice), an infopoint and dressing rooms.

The exhibitions are open daily from 8.00 to 18.00. The entrance is on the street side.

Permanent exhibition Cäsar & Marie-Louise Ritz

The permanent exhibition is dedicated to the hotelier Caesar Ritz (1850-1918) from Niederwald and his wife Marie-Louise Ritz-Beck.

In the exhibition, you will learn interesting facts about Caesar Ritz's life, which was marked by genius and tragedy in equal measure, and have the opportunity to marvel at one of the rooms of the Hotel Ritz in Paris.

HANDWERK UND MUNDWERK: Photo exhibition Sunderiya Erdenesaikhan

During her three-month artist residency in Bellwald, Mongolian photographer Sunderiya Erdenesaikhan set out in search of traditional foods in Valais and the people who still produce them today.

In the alpine museum on the Riederalp, cheese is made over an open fire in summer and autumn according to old traditions. And in the rye village of Erschmatt, you can experience the journey from grain to bread with all your senses. Why do we pass on old traditions? What can we learn from previous generations about food production? And who carries on the traditions that have been handed down? Sunderiya Erdenesaikhan's pictures take us from the craft to the mouth, which, as we know, is not just for eating, but also for passing on experience and knowledge.

An exhibition as part of the SMArt programme, curated by Luzia Carlen.

The exhibition runs from 29 December 2023 - 28 April 2024 (open daily from 8.00-18.00).

The vernissage will take place on Saturday, 28 December 2023.

Station Bistro

After several years of leasing the station bistro, which has been empty for many months, we will soon be venturing to run it ourselves. It is more the overall concept of Station Ritz with museum, cultural events and catering, which was built up with a lot of commitment and passion in memory of Caesar Ritz and should now form a unit.

The new gastronomic concept is modelled on the "Ritz Paris" with a small and fine range of dishes, as can be found in French bistros - but with a consistent use of regional products.

The bistro is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11.30 am to 6.00 pm.

Salon breakfast chez RITZ

A gourmet breakfast served on étagères and flavoured with anecdotes from the life of Caesar Ritz.

Every Sunday from 9.00 - 11.30 a.m. there is a fine salon breakfast chez RITZ.

The legacy of Caesar Ritz

King of hoteliers and hotelier of kings

Caesar Ritz grew up in Niederwald in Goms and lived from 1850 to 1918. 150 years ago, as a mountain farmer's boy, he moved out of Valais to change and shape the hotel industry and gastronomy of this world for good. He became the founder of the Ritz-Carlton hotels, which is why he is also called the forefather of the sophisticated hotel industry. He had the gift and the intuition to recognise what the essential elements of genuine hospitality were and used them skilfully and consistently. His ideology of hospitality has found its way back to his homeland. Today, many Goms gastronomy businesses live according to the philosophy of Caesar Ritz, the world-renowned "King of Hoteliers and Hotelier of Kings".

The Ritz Menu

This is how the legacy of Caesar Ritz lives on. Hospitality and culinary delights continue to be written large in Goms. Many activities in Goms revive the philosophy of Caesar Ritz, including the Ritz menu. Creative Goms chefs develop new interpretations of the culinary heritage and serve special Ritz menus. These are served in the following restaurants:
